MT 2406 - MLT Clinical Chemistry |
PREREQUISITE: Admission to the MLT program.
This three credit hour lecture and two credit hour laboratory course will cover the physiology of the body and the biochemical reactions that are necessary for a healthy existence. The human condition is evaluated by biochemical shifts in different systems that maintain homeostasis during healthful periods. Basic interpretation of biochemistry and the concentration of enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, electrolytes and blood gases will be discussed. The need for drug testing and evaluation will also be a part of this curriculum. The student will perform routine clinical tests on biological fluids, maintain quality assurance records, and perform preventative maintenance on instrumentation. This course will utilize computer technology to enhance student learning.
